Škofja Loka Passion Play, UNESCO-protected gem of Slovenian drama

In 1721, Father Romuald Marušič wrote a Passion play considered the oldest dramatic text in the Slovenian language. The text with director's notes is an invaluable treasure of European and world drama, which has also found its place on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage. Every six years during Easter, the Škofja Loka Passion Play comes to life on the streets of Škofja Loka, with more than 1,000 volunteers participating in the performance. The next production will take place between 21 March and 12 April 2026.
