Koroška

A hidden gem and a treasure trove at the eastern edge of the Alps

It may be one of the smaller regions in Slovenia, but it's all the more diverse and picturesque.

Green facts

Slovenia writes a green story. Feel it at every step.

Nature has blessed Koroška with lush forests, which cover almost 70% of its land. The forests of western slope of Mt Pohorje are particularly enchanting, with their depth and darkness.

In Koroška, you will find Najevnik Linden, “the mother of all Slovenian linden trees” and the Sgerm Spruce, the tallest tree in Central Europe.

Dravograd Lake is a home to more than 150 bird species and to beavers.

The Topla Landscape Park is one of the most attractive green corners of the cross-border Karavanke UNESCO Geopark.

Kvočevi nudlni

Carinthian people always liked to eat “nudlni” among the mealy dishes, known as “štruklji”, “krapci” or “žlikrofi” in other parts of Slovenia. “Kvočevi” or “kločevi nudlni” got their name after the filling made from dried pears. Seasoned with “grumpi” (greaves), they can be made as a side dish to go with meat, and for those with more of a sweet tooth, they can be prepared with roasted breadcrumbs, sugar and cinnamon.
