Fun for children – where everything happens for the first time
Encounter fairy-tale heroes in the middle of green meadows and forests. Enter an animal kingdom and venture down a wild water slide. Here, you can make your first attempts at skiing or enter the subterranean world for the first time. Get ready. The fun is only just beginning.
Hop on skis
In Slovenia, children will particularly enjoy shredding the snow-covered slopes on skis. Short slopes, dynamic terrains, courses for children, and numerous ski schools make it possible for their first skiing experience to be enjoyable and fun. Children in particular will have fun enjoying different kinds of entertainment available to them in Kranjska Gora, Rogla, Krvavec, Cerkno and Vogel.
When snow covers the landscape, Slovenia turns into a true winter wonderland. Slide down snow-covered slopes on sleighs, discover the fairytale beauty of the snow-capped nature by going snow-shoeing. Put on some ice-skates and have fun on well-maintained city ice rinks or feel the charm of ice skating on frozen lakes, if the conditions allow you to.
Indulge in summer relaxation and treat yourself with a holiday by the sea. Have fun with your children building sand castles or towers of pebbles on the beaches of the Slovenian coast. Swim and paddle in the sea or in heated sea water in swimming pools and wellness centres. An explosion of aquafun every day of the year awaits you at the Žusterna Water Park. Treat yourself to active adventures at the sea or in the coastal region.
In summer, there's nothing better than to find refreshment in crystal-clear rivers and healing waters in the middle of nature. The rivers Soča, Nadiža, Kolpa, or Drava are only some of the rivers where it is especially pleasant in the summer. Many camp sites and other green accommodation facilities, such as tree houses, are located next to rivers. Slovenia’s idyllic lakes are a true feast for the eyes, and you can even jump into some of them. Not only can you swim, but you can also enjoy other water adventures, from stand-up paddle boarding to kayaking and sliding down water slides. Much fun also awaits you at the coast!
Unique and exciting adventures. Test your resourcefulness, adventurous spirit, and climbing skills. Head to adventure parks, feel a direct contact with rock faces at secured rockclimbing sites, and descend into the valley on summer toboggans.
Slovenia is a green paradise for hikers. Even children, who are just discovering authentic natural experiences in the hills, can climb many of the mountain peaks. Feel the love of movement and, together with your children, learn about the mountain lifestyle. Velika Planina, Kranjska Gora, Bled, Bohinj ... choose where you want to head to the hills.
Learn about the interesting animals that have found their home in Slovenia’s sundry landscapes. Vitist Postojna Cave to find the unique human fish. Not far from there, your breath will be taken by the elegant Lipizzaner horses at one of the most famous European stud farms in Lipica. In Slovenia's nature parks, you can admire indigenous animal and plant species. Learn about various animals at the Ljubljana zoo or in other, smaller zoos around Slovenia.
Have a splendid time on a farm
Escape the urban hustle and bustle by enjoying simple farming tasks with your family. The children will have fun learning about domestic animals, baking bread and pastries, and tasting home-grown fruit picked from the orchards in the vicinity of tourist farms. While the parents can help with cutting grass, picking fruit, and performing other tasks, the children can run around vast meadows without a care in the world. After finishing your daily adventures at the farm, fall asleep in the comfortable shelter of a hay loft.
Slovenia is an ideal destination for a family getaway in all seasons. A wonderful range of various activities and workshops is available at children’s festivals. At nearly every step, you will be able to find entertainment for children, whether it be at museums, theatres, or centres for children. Did you know that many fairytale creatures and folk heroes also live in this part of the world? Meet them in fairytale lands across Slovenia, and you will also find them in green forests, mountains, castles, and even in Slovenia’s underground world.
The fun continues ...
Slovenia is an ideal destination for a family holiday and trips with children in all seasons.
Spend your holiday in the heart of mountainous Slovenia. Walk through vibrant and untouched nature that is criss-crossed by 10,000 kilometres of marked and arranged hiking trails. You can choose from 175 mountain huts or spend your nights in hotels and camps for hikers.
Treat yourself to a swim in some of the many thermal spas and swimming pools. In summer, take a dip in the sea, lakes or rivers. Slovenia is rich in natural water resources. Visit Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj or one of the many natural swimming areas located on the coast.
Equestrianism and horseback riding in Slovenia have a centuries-old tradition thanks to the Lipica Stud Farm, the cradle of the world-famous Lipizzaner horses. Equestrian centres, tourist farms and ranches offer various options for horseback riding in fenced areas around farms, in meadows, and in forests.
