Cycling Trips Around the Brda Region

Attractive in any season, this rural region is a cycling hotspot. Some 280 km of cycling routes wind all over this charmingly diverse landscape. Away from traffic-heavy roads, the routes serpentine through the narrow streets of closely-clustered villages. For easier, more comfortable uphill rides you can rent electric bikes.

Frtalja is a signature regional dish, an omelette made from whisked eggs. Locals add their individual signature touches with an aromatic mix of fresh, finely chopped herbs such as lemon balm, chives, fennel shoots, feverfew and costmary.

Following the emerald green Soča river upstream, you will reach the Soča Valley, which is a paradise for lovers of the great outdoors. Board a train in the village of Most na Soči and head over to the alpine valley of Bohinj, situated in large part within the confines of Triglav National Park. Alternatively, you can go south: just 15 km from Brda lies Nova Gorica, poetically called the town of young people, from where you can venture over to another wine region, the Vipava Valley. Continue on toward the Karst region and marvel at the many wonders of nature both above and below ground.
