A Hiking and Mountain Climbing Paradise

In Bohinj there are over 400 km of organised hiking and mountain climbing trails. The more interesting routes include the Bohinj mountain trail and a part of the international Via Alpina long-distance hiking trail. Bohinj is an excellent starting point to ascend to Mt Triglav which can be accessed on numerous trails. The highest Slovenian mountain can, among others, be conquered along the route of the four brave men, who first ascended to the summit of Triglav 240 years ago.

Hiking in a paradise garden

Venture on the path from the Alps to the sea. Along the Alpe Adria Trail which connects Austria, Slovenia and Italy, you will find some of the most beautiful stages in the Soča Valley. Take a walk around the Triglav National Park, follow the Soča all the way from its source and admire the emerald pools and hanging bridges. In the higher areas you will encounter wonderful views of the valley and the heritage of the First World War.

Experiencing the mountain world in the company of living legends

Conquer the Alpine summits surrounding the town with experienced guides, two of them being Marija and Andrej Štremfelj, the first married couple to stand at the top of the world in the Himalayas and entered the Guinness World Records. With 40 years of climbing experience, they now guide climbing tours on walls, waterfalls and mountain ridges of the Slovenian Alps.

A hiking tour in the Kamnik and Savinja Alps

This mountain range has many protected natural areas that are ideal for hiking and trips to the mountains. The highest peaks are higher than 2500 metres, and well-marked mountain trails will lead you to them. Hike up to the highest peaks of the Kamnik and Savinja Alps. Mt Grintovec, Mt Ojstrica, Mt Brana, and Mt Storžič.

Hiking adventures

A diverse and picturesque landscape of Vipava Valley and Goriška region offers true hiking delights all year round. Go on a hike on Nanos, discover the natural attraction of Otlica Natural Window or Skozno, and admire the sea from the Trnovo Plateau or from Cerje. Conquer the high peaks or choose easier routes in the valley and between the villages of Vipava Hills. Take advantage of your hike to taste local delicacies.

Hiking in the Škofja Loka region

Put on your hiking boots and visit the nearby peaks with unforgettable views. The Škofja Loka Hills, embraced by the Cerkno and Idrija Hills, is criss-crossed with many well-maintained and marked hiking trails, which are suitable for families, those seeking recreation, or even more advanced hikers. Have some rest in beautifully maintained mountain cabins and huts and enjoy home-made specialities and flavours.

Cycling across picturesque plateaus

The Idrija hills are perfect for cyclists, as they provide a range of picturesque cycling trails offering unforgettable views, and riding is even easier with e-bikes that can be rented from local providers. The Idrija hills offer a wide range of cycling trails for every taste. Climbing the peaks of Idrija on a bike provides captivating views, while fans of downhill cycling will also find many opportunities for enjoyment.

Explore the Cerkno region on foot

Choose one of the mountain paths and transversal hiking trails winding through the Cerkno region. The marked and well-maintained hiking paths, which are also great for Nordic walking, allow you to enjoy hiking in all seasons. Conquer Mount Porezen, which, at 1,630 m, is the highest peak in the Cerkno Hills and affords breath-taking views of the Lower Bohinj Mountains and the Julian Alps, or set out to France Bevk's homestead in Zakojca from Cerkno.

Over the hills of Kozjansko

The Kozjansko Regional Park comprises 50 km of marked and well-tended footpaths, along which you can get to know the area’s biodiversity and cultural sights. See Podsreda and visit its castle bearing the same name. Set out from Pilštanj’s medieval square and ascend to the lookout spot at the Vina Gora Hill. A part of the E7 European long-distance path leads across the Kozjansko region.

Hiking in ancient forests

At the edge of Kočevski Rog the Mirna gora mountain hides countless stories of the vast forests and the tough life of the local people. Discover them along four marked hiking trails which guide you to the remnants of a forest railway with an open-air museum. While hiking along the shepherd's trails around the Mirna gora mountain, you will also discover the former life and work of the Gottschee Germans.

Discovering heritage on hiking trails

The gentle landscape with diverse settings offers numerous marked hiking trails. Some of the trails are connected with local history and important local historical personalities. The longest among them is the 150-km-long Trdina Trail. Rudolf’s Trail is also connected with the history of Novo Mesto. One of the most popular trails is the hiking trail to Trdinov Vrh Hill. Slak’s Trail and the Cvičkova Gaz Trail take you around the wine-growing Trška Gora area.

Hiking from green forests to the sea

Choose your hiking trail and set out on a journey from the ancient forests to the stony cliffs of the Adriatic Sea and enjoy the views from the highest Karst peaks. International long-distance hiking trails of Via Alpina, Via Dinarica and Alpe Adria Trail run along the Karst gems.
