Green Facts

Slovenia writes a green story. Feel it at every step.

Krakovski gozd is one of the most important Slovenian wetlands, and also the largest plain forest area with English oak, European hornbeam, and Black alder trees. In the central part of the forest lies a protected rainforest reserve.

Along the Sava River in Radeče and Sevnica, there is the longest and most beautiful fishing route in Europe.

The gorge of the Bistrica River has the reputation of being the most well-preserved and picturesque river gorge in Eastern Slovenia. Some less known and endangered plant species flourish in the gorge.

The thickest tree in Slovenia – Gašper's chestnut tree – grows in Posavje.

Bizeljsko Buckwheat Cake

A juicy cake made from unleavened buckwheat dough with cottage cheese filling. It is tastiest immediately after baking, therefore when still warm. A typical dish served in the past to workers in the fields or vineyards and at the time of major holidays.
