It's fun in the Gorenjska region

The festive season in the Gorenjska region has always been fun. Take a ride in a fijaker, a traditional horse-driven carriage, through the charming Bled countryside, stop at a church and go on a lantern walk to an authentic Gorenjska homestead that is more than 500 years old. At the homestead, you will be warmly welcomed by the host and hostess, dressed in traditional 19th-century clothes that were sewn according to research done by Dr Bojan Knific. In a cosy, authentic atmosphere, the proprietors will get you in the festive mood and make you feel like you are part of the family. Together you will listen to and sing folk songs and melodies, dance traditional dances and feel the magic of the festive season in the Gorenjska region. Of course, there will also be traditional local food and drink and interesting stories from the local area.

Did you know?

The Church of St Lenart in Bodešče, which you will visit as part of the experience, is a Baroque Gothic church with a star-vaulted presbytery dating from around 1440 and is one of the most important sacral monuments in north-western Slovenia.

The Sodar Homestead, which is the main venue of the experience, is a farmstead dating back to 1664 and from where the roots of the famous Slovenian benefactress, Josipina Hočevar, originate.

The Svete Višarje Trail, which is part of the Way of St James (Slovenian camino), leads past the Church of St Lenart in Bodešče, past the Sodar Homestead and on to the pilgrimage centre of Svete Višarje in Italy.

The main room of the old Gorenjska homestead was once called "the house". Its interior features include a masonry stove, bogkov kot (a corner with a cross) located in the corner above the table and benches, and a tabernacle, a wall cabinet where valuable objects and spirits were once kept.
