The Slovenia Green Wellness Route: a cycling route that will regenerate you

A cycling route with stops for relaxation and pampering leads you to the Slovenian natural health resorts and spas of central and Pannonian Slovenia.

Cycling and relaxation in one

We visit Slovenian health resorts when we want to relax the body and the mind. Think about another component being added to leisurely relaxation, perhaps crucial to achieving an even better effect. Imagine that on the way from one spa to another, you maintain a moderately high heart rate and breathe at full lung capacity. Your means of transport is not a car, a bus or a train. Your body powers – and moves – a bike! The experience of pools, Jacuzzis, saunas and massages takes on a whole new dimension!

The Slovenia Green Wellness Route – a route that leads you to relaxation

The Slovenia Green Wellness Route is, simply put, a combination of cycling while exploring green Slovenia and pampering in health resorts. The daily stages are designed to leave plenty of time for enjoyment and pampering in the afternoon. The paths are perfect for cyclists as they are off the main thoroughfares, with just the right dynamic elevation profile and plenty of places worth visiting along the way.

The Slovenia Green Wellness Route is a 16-day cycling route, but that doesn't mean you have to do it all at once. Combined with trains, you can plan weekend trips or ride one half of the route first and then set off to discover the rest of it later.

Where does the route lead you?

After starting in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, the route takes you northwards towards the sharply pointed Kamnik-Savinja Alps, which you avoid by turning your handlebars eastwards. You have to push the pedals a little harder in the first few stages, but then the landscape gradually flattens out on the way east. The mountains spill out into the wine hills and then onto the spacious Pannonian Plain in the far east. You will be enchanted by the openness of the landscape, which is reflected in the people. The good-hearted and hospitable locals won't let you leave with an empty stomach.

The last, southern part of the route, is again hillier and leads to unique locations such as the Kozjansko Regional Park, Kostanjevica, also known as the "Slovenian Venice", and Otočec Castle, which lies on an island in the middle of the Krka River. Although you will be spending most of your time cycling through the wine-growing regions, you'll find a global speciality, the beer fountain in Žalec, waiting for you just before you reach your destination.

Where can you indulge yourself?

The Slovenia Green Wellness Route connects Slovenia's natural health resorts and spas, where you can relax your tired muscles after a day's cycling and pamper your body, mind and taste buds.
