Stories that inspire gourmets
Although it may not exactly catch instantly the eye on the map, Slovenia's geographical and culinary diversity has captured the attention of gourmands worldwide. A mix of traditional recipes, fresh, local ingredients and the bold creativity of Slovenian chefs have put the country lying on the sunny side of the Alps on the European gastronomic map. The arrival of culinary giant Michelin, which clearly feels good in Slovenia, has also added to the overall picture by having expanded the range of restaurants in its guide year after year. The number of prestigious stars is also growing every year. But what is the secret behind all these stars and other restaurants? You can discover it through the stories Michelin writes about Slovenian cooking, restaurants and chefs.
Written by Le Guide MICHELIN
Yet, despite its compact nature, this pocket-sized country boasts a rich and unique diversity that can be divided into four regions: the Mediterranean and Karst area to the southwest, an Alpine area to the north, the Pannonian Plain to the east and, finally, the central region, where Ljubljana acts as a linchpin between these different regions. The result is a gastronomy that encompasses the sea and mountains, olive oil and sauerkraut, sausages and also seafood, even though the country's coastline is only 46 km long!
