Enjoy the joyous atmosphere in Slovenia’s towns and cities

A stroll through festively decorated Ljubljana is a special experience. Browse through the playfully decorated market stalls and enjoy countless open-air events or visit the magical Land of Ice. But there is much more to Christmas spirit in Slovenia also in other towns and cities. You can either hop on a fairytale train and leave the capital to go to Celje to visit the Fairytale Land or continue further on to Maribor, where the Magical December features St Nicholas’, Christmas and New Year’s markets, including a winter wonderland with many concerts and events.


Merry December in Kranj features concerts, a holiday market, and children's events organised by the mischievous local elf named Kranček along with the good men of December (St Nicholas, Father Christmas, and Grandfather Frost). In Koper, the Wonderland of thousands of magnificent lights awaits visitors with a rich entertainment programme, thematic fairs, an ice-skating rink and great foods. In Velenje, the Magical Promenade awaits for you with hot drinks and delicacies and various events.

The fairy-tale experience of Alpine centres

Enter a winter fairytale at Lake Bled! The festively decorated promenade awaits you with delightful market stalls offering presents, delicious local dishes and a wide range of events. Listen to the legend of the sunken bell and top it all off with the ice-skating in the rink with the most beautiful view. A stroll through festively decorated Kranjska Gora is also a beautiful experience. At the central square in Kranjska Gora, pretty market stalls with handmade products by local craftsmen and artists create an idyllic image of an Alpine village. In December, wonderful settings with a backdrop of the snow-capped mountains invite visitors to enjoy open-air music and theatre performances as well as those held in the Vitranc Hall and on the ski slopes.

Experience delightful historical towns during Advent

In December, the romantic old town of Radovljica glows illuminated by a thousand tiny lights, and holiday market stalls and various events for all generations become the town’s hotspot. The Fairy-tale Kamnik comes to life every December as holiday lights are lit and numerous outdoor events are held. The ice-skating rink at Keršmančev Park and a magical fairy-tale tent are among the sights worth visiting. In Škofja Loka, known for its handicraft tradition, visitors can choose from a variety of unique presents at Windows of Imagination, a group sales exhibition where you can also taste typical local delights. 

In Ptuj, the oldest Slovenian town, visitors strolling under thousands of stars encounter magical creatures, which spellbind them with a December fairy-tale. In Sevnica, visitors can visit various events held throughout the Magical December.


A festive mood with a tinge of the sea and the Karst

Spend the festive month of December at the coast, where the scent of alluring holiday foods is combined with the scent of the sea. Experience la dolce vita at the Christmas and New Year’s market in Portorož. Taste premium sparkling wine at a festival at Hotel Kempinski Palace. Make sure to visit the nearby Postojna Cave, where an unforgettable live nativity scene experience awaits you in the holiday season.
