Give small presents for festive joy
Holiday shopping: a time of joy or a nightmare? Go for the former. Avoid crowds in shopping centres and take a walk through town centres where you can find original gifts for your loved ones in small boutique shops. Shopping among thousands of holiday lights has a charm of its own. On December days, you can usually browse among charming stalls where a variety of handicrafts and local food products are sold. Let holiday shopping become a fun experience.
Choose a beautiful gift in small boutique shops
When walking through decorated town centres, visit some of the small shops offering unique products. You can find many interesting things there: from homemade delicacies to designer items.
If you have no idea what to give your loved ones, friends or colleagues, you may find the perfect gift among the typical Slovenian products.
Slovenia is a nation of beekeepers, so you will come across a wealth of honey and bee products. A special experience is shopping for decorative gingerbread products.
Take your food to the next level with unique Piran salt or fleur de sel from Sečovlje saltpans. The salt is harvested by a traditional procedure that has been practiced over 700 years.
Majolka – Slovenian ceramic water or wine jugs are both decorative and useful.
Fine souvenirs include the beautiful bobbin lace from Idrija.
You might be thrilled by crystal products made by the skilled glass blowers from Rogaška Slatina.
You can’t go wrong with a bottle of premium Slovenian wine.
World-famous woodenware or ‘suha roba’ of Ribnica comes in many shapes, from spoons to baskets. Another staple is painted beehive panels called panjske končnice.
Typical Slovenian cheeses with protected designation of origin, charcuterie such as Karst prosciutto, the Savinjski želodec or the Prleška tünka, and other foodstuffs with protected designation of origin may be the perfect gift for foodies.
Gifts with flavour
You still don't know what to give to your loved ones for the holidays? Maybe treat them to something delicious from Slovenia - from local ingredients to gourmet delicacies and top-level sustainable wines. You can also choose handicraft products that reflect the tradition of Slovenian cities.
Order the best Slovenia has to offer

These guarantee product authenticity and local origin. By selecting local delicacies and certified handicraft products, you will take home a small piece of Slovenian tradition and creativity while making a step towards sustainability.
Festive market stalls are usually set up in Slovenian towns during the holiday season where people can find delightful gifts for their loved ones. Wooden goods, lace, crystal, honey products, wine – these are but some of the ideas for making someone’s holiday special with a Slovenian gift. In addition to traditional handicrafts, you can also give a more modern masterpiece made by Slovenian craftsmen and designers.
Get to know the Slovenian world of sustainable wines that invite you back to nature with their colours and flavours. Production of such types of wine represents a way of life that respects the natural environment of vineyards and everything that makes it special. And this is precisely what makes natural wines so mysteriously attractive.
Wooden products from Ribnica, artistic blacksmith products from Kropa, delicate intertwined threads in bobbin lace from Idrija – these are only some of the most recognisable products from Slovenian cities and villages that have a rich handicraft and craft tradition. Items from the rich handicraft treasury tell stories about the character of the places and the creativity of their residents through the centuries to the present day.
During festive December, cities and villages shine in the gleam of a thousand lights. The lively holiday atmosphere lights up children's eyes and fills the heart with joyous anticipation. In homes, the festive spirit comes to life with handmade decorations and enticing aromas coming from the kitchen.
