In the early 20th century, the railway line connected Bohinj with the remaining Gorenjska region in the north (and thus Central Slovenia and Ljubljana) and the Primorska region in the south. This connection was used by the people of Bohinj to offer the BohinjSKI train, which includes transport by train, local bus, a ski pass and a snack. Such an offer proved to be successful and contributes significantly to redirecting visitors onto the train. When arriving in Bohinjska Bistrica by train, families with children who are learning to descend down the white slopes can go on foot to the Kozji hrbet ski resort, the only ski resort in Slovenia accessible by train. Other visitors can transfer to a bus at the railway station.
Well-established free transport to the beaches of Lake Bohinj, camps, the Savica Waterfall and other tourist points surrounding Bohinj runs smoothly in the summer season. Free buses will also connect four surrounding ski resorts in winter 2022/2023. These include Vogel, Sorica Plateau, Kozji hrbet and Pokljuka. The ski bus is anticipated to start running at the end of December and will be intended for the skiers already accommodated in Bohinj and those arriving in Bohinj by train or those who will leave their cars at one of the P+R car parks in Bohinj. All guests staying in accommodation facilities in the area of Bohinj are entitled to free SkiBus, which means that the bus will take them to the lower station of the Vogel cable car free of charge.

The views from the peaks where it’s possible to find the remnants of military facilities from the times when the Italian and Yugoslavian border used to run here, are absolutely breathtaking, which is why the Sorica Plateau is also a great place for hikers and ski tourers.
This small ski resort has a 440-metre-long track that can be accessed on foot directly from the railway station in Bohinjska Bistrica. It’s perfect for families with small children who are learning to stand on skis and are making their first turns on the white slopes. And once the children get tired of skiing, Aquapark Bohinj is only 600 metres away. What could be better?
Two ski resorts for families with small children can be found in the middle of the pristine forested plateau. The first one is at the Pokljuka Hotel and the second one at the Jelka Hotel. The third ski resort in Pokljuka, Viševnik at the barracks on Rudno polje, is a popular starting point for ski touring enthusiasts.
The Senožeta ski resort is a small resort in Srednja vas that is suitable for families and recreational skiing. The resort is accessible by car. It enables night skiing and has well-maintained cross-country tracks that criss-cross the Upper Bohinj Valley.
