The land of Lipizzaner horses and Ljutomer trotters
Equestrianism and horseback riding in Slovenia have a centuries-old tradition thanks to the Lipica Stud Farm, the cradle of the world-famous Lipizzaner horses. Numerous equestrian centres, tourist farms and ranches offer you the experience of Slovenia in the saddle.

Horse lovers must not miss a visit to the Lipica Stud Farm, where the noble white horses known as Lipizzaners, have been raised for more than four hundred years. Lipizzaners delight fans of classical riding according to the principles of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, with sport dressage and horse-drawn rides. Experienced riders will really enjoy it here. If you don’t yet know how to ride, the equestrian centres provide various lessons.

Ljutomer
An important equestrian and horseback riding town in Slovenia is Ljutomer from where the Ljutomer trotter originates. These are fast horses used for harness racing. On the hippodrome in Ljutomer, at least four important harness races are organised every year. The breed of American trotters also arouses admiration at the Brdo Breeding Centre, where the best Slovenian horses and riders compete every year on the sand racing track before packed grandstands.

Bohinj offers excellent terrains both for beginners and experienced riders. Trail riding is also excellent for exploring Bohinj, since at the same time you can see the various natural and cultural attractions. Riding tours vary from short ascents of low hills up to a full day of horseback riding on Pokljuka. Trail riding is possible in all seasons.

Horseback riders can visit Kočevje and descended to Kostel Castle. From the hills of Bela Krajina climb to the top of Gorjanci Hills, then descend past the meadows to Pleterje and its hot springs, explore the mysterious Radulja Valley and ride past the "sleeping beauty" at Mirna to Suha krajina and the valley of the River Krka.
