Slovenia unveils new Julian Alps Hiking Trail

This year Slovenia unveils a new 270km hiking trail through the mighty Julian Alps. This circular route will lead walkers from the state border between Italy and Slovenia via numerous natural wonders including the Kranjska Gora region, the Sava River and the Soca Valley. It will also encompass the shores of Lake Bled before a challenging ascent into the Triglav National Park under the shadow of mighty Mt Triglav. Other highlights include the Bohinj region and Slovenia’s sweetest town, Radovljica, where the country’s famous Lectar, or decorated gingerbread, is made.

Slovenia - European Region of Gastronomy 2021

Slovenia has been named European Region of Gastronomy (ERG) 2021 and will be focusing heavily on culinary adventures in 2019 & 2020. This year’s WTM will be a fantastic opportunity to come and find out why Slovenia is Europe’s new food capital, offering world-class chefs, farm-to-table freshness and unique culinary experiences. As the Slovenian proverb says, ‘In Slovenia, love comes through the stomach!’

The 2017–2021 Strategy for the Sustainable Growth of Slovenian Tourism defines gastronomy as one of the ten leading tourist products, since it enables development of excellent experiences and contributes to the dispersion of tourist flows and deseasonalization of tourism, which are also considered our central objectives for the future.

Discover new openings for 2020

Find out about new openings across the country in 2020, including the new luxury Chocolate Village by the River glamping resort. As you may have guessed from the name, everything here revolves around chocolate - chocolate breakfasts, chocolate workshops, chocolate cosmetics and even chocolate massage! Overlooking the beautiful Lake Bohinj, the new 4-star Hotel Majerca is ideally located for outdoor adventures throughout the year, from SUP to snowboarding. Additionally two new hotels opened, Triglav Apart Hotel and Sunrose 7, an Adult-Only type hotel.

Also new to Slovenia in 2019 is the Pohorje Treetop Walk. Located at the heart of the forests of the Pohorje mountains, this unique observation tower has a total length of over 1,000m and stands up to 37m high. Meandering through an ancient and diverse forest, visitors will get to experience the landscape and its wild inhabitants from a completely new perspective. Combining environmental awareness and education, the tower is also fully accessible to families and wheelchair users.

MY WAY & the 2019 Global Digital Campaign

In order to reflect changes in travel habits, such as the search for authenticity, personal experiences and the new concept of luxury, STB has created the new umbrella tourism brand - MY WAY. The new communication platform contributes to achieving Slovenia's vision of a green boutique destination for 5-star experiences and represents support for increasing the added value of Slovenian tourism.

The MY WAY concept was finalised in January of this year and used for the first time in the 2019 Global Digital Campaign. The aim of the campaign, that was carried out in 16 countries in Europe and in USA, is to increase tourist visits in the pre- and post-season, persuade potential guests at the decision-making stage on where to spend their holiday, and to follow the goal of balancing tourist flows and dispersing them throughout the year.
