With the arrival of autumn, when nature dresses in the most beautiful colours, a Hiking Festival is  organised annually in the Soča valley. In September and October, one of the most beautiful alpine river valleys, the Soča, hosts hikes and thematic hiking weekends which unite fans of hiking and alpinism from Slovenia and  abroad. A rich programme, which takes place from 15th September to 1st October, is prepared by Tourism Soča Valley in cooperation with the Triglav National Park.

The city of Maribor and the tourist destination Maribor-Pohorje marked excellent tourism statistics for the period between January and June 2017, compared to the same period last year. Overnight stays in Maribor showed a total increase of 10%, while growth in tourist arrivals went up by 14%. Overnight stays in the region of Maribor-Pohorje recorded an increase of 8% in tourist destinations and 10% in tourist arrivals. This June was better than last year by 18% (city) and by 20% (destination). Most overnight stays were generated by tourists from Germany, Croatia and Italy.

In February, Ljubljana will host the UEFA futsal EURO 2018, one of the biggest sports events in Slovenia next year. The European Championship in this variety of association football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch in classical football, will mainly take place at the biggest Slovenian stadium, the Stožice Stadium, under the auspices of the Football Association of Slovenia, which is proud to have been entrusted the organisation of EURO 2018 futsal.

Even before the summer, Postojna Cave presented an awareness campaign on the importance of clean waters, which are the habitat of the “human fish”. In the past few days, one of the most respected media in the world and one of the most respected scientific journalists in the world, Robin McKie, wrote about the efforts of Postojna Cave and the cave laboratory team. An article published in the Guardian and the Observer, both online and in print, was devoted to preserving the “baby dragon”, and Slovenia was introduced as a country that "takes care of baby dragons".

The tourist book and website Rough Guides has created a new list of the 20 most beautiful countries in the world. In first place was Scotland, while Slovenia was placed in the golden centre, and the rankings were rounded up by Vietnam. The chart was co-created by portal readers, who could vote for their favourite country and who put Slovenia in 11th place. "Small but mighty," the readers gave as the description of Slovenia, adding that it was adorned with mountains, forests, lakes, shores, old towns, friendly people and good food.

Within the framework of the 12th Bled Strategic Forum (BSF), whose leading theme was the New Reality, the panel on tourism was organised by the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (MGRT) and the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB). The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) opened a call for the People’s Choice Awards for the best promotional video of tourist destinations in the world. The organisation invited all member states to participate in the competition to promote videos submitted through social media, along with other relevant media, using the hashtag #UNWTOGAChina.
