Slovenia Green members
SLOVENIA GREEN is the umbrella brand under which the national tool for the implementation of sustainable tourism - the Slovenian Green Tourism Scheme (GSST) - has been operating since 2015. It is a quality certificate for meeting a wide range of requirements in the field of sustainable tourism and a tool for assessing and improving the sustainable performance of all stakeholders in Slovenian tourism (both tourist destinations and tourism providers). The aim is to make Slovenia an attractive green and healthy destination. The GSST follows the criteria of the international Green Destinations Foundation - Green Destinations Standard, which are recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

Slovenia Green Label for destinations
Destinations are assessed against the global Green Destination criteria, which comprise 84 criteria divided into six categories (Destination Management, Nature and Landscape, Environment and Climate, Culture and Tradition, Social Climate and Tourism Business Performance). The final destination rating is issued on a scale of 1 to 10 for each category separately and also as an average of all categories. Depending on the level of achievement of the criteria, destinations may be awarded a platinum, gold, silver or bronze label.
The Slovenia Green Destination sustainability label is based on 11 key steps and activities, which guarantee that a destination has already achieved a certain level of sustainability when it enters the Slovenian Green Tourism Scheme and, by signing the Slovenian Green Tourism Commitment, commits to continuously improving its sustainability level.

After being awarded the title of Slovenia - European Region of Gastronomy 2021 and having established the sustainability concept of "from garden to table", the GSST has expanded into the field of gastronomy. As of January 2021, catering service providers can obtain the Slovenia Green Cuisine label based on having previously obtained the L.E.A.F. or Green Key international sustainability certification. In doing so, they sign the Slovenia Sustainable Gastronomy Commitment, which:
based on Slovenian gastronomic specialities, authentic and seasonal dishes with local character, highlights the exceptional importance of short supply chains of high quality local food providers and stimulates caterers to connect and engage with the local environment, reduce waste, eliminate single-use plastics, use fresh tap water, reduce their carbon footprint, use natural resources sustainably and maintain high hygiene and sanitation standards.
