The 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Ljubljana-Tacen

Tacen will once again host the 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup, which will take place from 15 to 18 June 2023. This high-profile international sports event on the wild waters of the Sava River also draws international attention to promote Slovenia and the capital, Ljubljana, as a green space for sport and recreation.

The Tacen rapids will once again host the world's whitewater slalom elite at the ICF World Cup, which will take place from 15 to 18 June 2023. Competitors from 32 countries from Europe, North and South America, Oceania, Asia and Africa will take part. Ljubljana is the third stop in this year's series of competitions on wild waters, following Augsburg and Prague. For promotional purposes, before the start of the World Cup, on Tuesday, 13 June, slalom racers will present themselves to the public in a parallel slalom on the Ljubljanica River.

The competition in Slovenia also serves as a rehearsal for the European Games, which will be hosted by Krakow at the end of the month and will also be the European qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Slovenians traditionally achieve top success on their home track and record places near the top. Since 1989, when Ljubljana hosted its first World Cup race, our representatives have won 37 medals, including 14 gold, 15 silver and 8 bronze. Last season, when the World Cup was also held in Ljubljana in June, kayaker Martin Srabotnik and canoeist Luka Božič won silver medals, while Olympic champion Benjamin Savšek won a bronze.

The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB), a leader in the development of responsibility in tourism, recognises the importance of such sporting events, which build the image of Slovenia as an excellent and responsible destination for active holidays and reinforce the value of the I Feel Slovenia brand and is thus actively involved in promotional activities connected with the event.

Briefly about Slovenia and the love of (water) sports

Slovenia might be among the smaller countries in the world, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in its diversity. It is the place where the Alpsthe Mediterraneanthe Karst and the Pannonian Plain meet. This results in an outstanding variety: in terms of the landscape, culture and gastronomy. The world's first green destination will also award you with an array of exciting outdoor adventures, which take you through lowlands, highlands, and mountains. All of this is at your fingertips when in Slovenia, no matter the season.
