Unveiling the recipients of the highest tourism awards in Slovenia for 2022

On Tuesday evening, the highest awards in Slovenian tourism were presented at a ceremony held as part of the Days of Slovenian Tourism  in Celje.

The Kristalni Triglav award for Personality of the Year 2022, which is jointly awarded by all organisers of the Slovenian Days of Slovenian Tourism, went to Andrej Prebil. The awarding committee highlighted his 20 years of professional and dedicated work in the Slovenian tourism industry, his contribution to the development of tourism and his professional, active support in the recovery of the Slovenian tourism industry after the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Ambassador of Slovenian Tourism 2022 became Alex Crevar, a journalist, editor, consultant and expert in tourism development. Crevar has written about Slovenia for Lonely Planet, National Geographic and the New York Times, among others, and was involved in the development of the Slovenia Green Cycling Route.

The Slovenian Tourist Board awarded the Sejalec 2022 prize for innovative achievements in tourism to the Secret Rooms of the Jama Hotel by Postojnska Jama. The experience offers an exclusive insight into the hidden rooms inside the iconic Jama Hotel. The other finalists were the Mediterranean Fish Cooking Workshop by Fonda and the Melody of the Forest by HIKEANDBIKE Tourist Agency.

The award for outstanding contribution to the development of Slovenian tourism went to Tomaž Repinec. As the CEO of HIT, Slovenia's largest gaming and tourism company, he has successfully guided the company during the epidemic crisis over the last four years.

Mate Matjaž - Tomi received the Lifetime Achievement Award in the Hospitality Industry. He opened the Tomi restaurant in 1978, which was succeeded in 2018 by the COB restaurant, now a prestigious Michelin-starred restaurant, with his two sons at the helm. He was also the head of the Catering and Tourism Section and remains in its governing bodies.

The award for outstanding contribution to the development of a tourist association was presented to Vlado Kostevc, the founding member and the chair of the Suha krajina tourist association from Žužemberk. Kostevc is a volunteer with a keen sense for preserving, reviving and promoting cultural, natural and intangible heritage and also an organiser of several internationally renowned events. He is active in the governing bodies of the Slovenian Tourist Association.

The Kristalni Triglav 2022 Award was awarded to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia's largest mountain tourist resort, which has in recent years greatly improved its image and added to and diversified its tourist offer. Among other things, Lake Jasna has been improved, the boutique Hotel Milka by the lake boasts a Michelin star, a modern camper stop has been built, a new four-seater chairlift to the top of Vitranc is opening this winter season, and a new ski slope between Podkoren and Kranjska Gora has been built.
