TOP UK media describe Slovenia as an ideal destination for both romantic and active holidays

UK's Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie spent their honeymoon in Slovenia last week. The visit was brought to the spotlight by the most renowned UK media, such as The Times, The Telegraph, Daily Mail, Independent, The Guardian and many others.

Boris Johnson thanked everyone who helped him and his wife during their visit. "We visited mountains, swam in lakes and cycled. It was wonderful. I highly recommend visiting Slovenia, we saw incredible things: giant caves, human fish, Postojna Cave. Thanks Slovenia, the only country that has the English word for love in its name".

The Telegraph published two articles, with the first one pointing out that Slovenia was an ideal choice for romantic holidays and highlighting Vila Planinka and Postojna Cave. It also presented hiking and cycling adventures and excellent gastronomy. In another article, which was published two days later, they described the beauties of Slovenia in general, highlighted Ljubljana as the green capital of Europe, explained the history and put the seaside town of Piran on the cover.

The Times published three articles where Vila Planinka and Jezersko received the most attention. In the third article entitled, "Why the Johnsons' honeymoon spot should be the next on your list", they also highlighted all the key tourist attractions and activities, while writing that few places in Europe offer such pristine, cinematic beauty and that this quiet, modest Central European country is not a standard honeymoon destination for world leaders, often overlooked in favour of neighboring Italy, Austria and Croatia.

The Daily Mail also wrote about Vila Planinka, the beauties of Jezersko, exceptional gastronomy, and they also added a statement to the media where the Prime Minister shared his wonderful experience during his visit to Slovenia.

The Independant presented the beauty of Slovenia in its entirety, and at the end, the journalist wrote that a self-confident nation lives here, which takes care of nature and natural resources, and focuses on the future.

Falstaff also spoke about Villa Planinka and the beauties of Jezersko, describing it as the destination, which is a "balm for the soul."

On the UK market, the STB has been promoting Slovenia as a tourist destination for many years through various communication projects, cooperation with a public relations agency, presence at important events and fairs (World Travel Market) and with hosting important media in Slovenia. Among other things, Slovenia was selected as a Lonely Planet's Best in Travel Destination for 2022, and last year and this year, STB hosted important media from the United Kingdom as part of press trips, such as The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph, The Independent, Daily Mail, The Sun, Nat Geo Traveller, Conde Nast Traveller, Easy Jet Traveler and many more.

The UK market is one of the most important markets in the field of tourism. In the pre-corona period, in 2019, around 160 thousand UK tourists visited and created a total of 444 thousand overnight stays. In 2021, there were 21,048 arrivals from the United Kingdom, generating 58,348 overnight stays. Numbers are much better in 2022, with 36,594 tourist arrivals generating 98,745 overnight stays in the first half of the year. Tourists from the UK are most interested in cities and culture (they visit Ljubljana the most) and activities in nature.
