Slovenia’s best sustainable practices presented to Brussels correspondents accredited at the EU Institutions

At the beginning of Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Slovenia hosted almost 50 representatives of the foreign media who are accredited at the EU institutions. This has been organised in line with the tradition of the presiding countries, to present the program and priorities of the presidency. Journalists were in Slovenia from 30 June to 3 July and on their final day they visited Vipava, a holder of the gold SLOVENIA GREEN DESTINATION label and an example of an exceptional sustainably oriented tourist destination. The aim of the trip was to present the best practices in sustainable tourism in Slovenia. For this very reason, the Government Communication Office of Slovenia, the Slovenian Tourist Board and the Vipava local tourism organisation along with tourism providers in Vipava joined forces and organized an unforgettable day of 5* sustainably oriented activities.

Vipava is known as an excellent foodie and outdoor lovers’ destination. In addition, the destination is exceptional from the point of view of the development of sustainable tourism, which is why the Slovenian Tourist Board awarded it the golden label of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism - SLOVENIA GREEN. Already in the morning, journalists from Ljubljana set off towards the unforgettable green experience of Vipava. The official part was held in the Lanthieri mansion, which included a briefing with the Minister of Economic Development and Technology Zdravko Počivalšek, a presentation by the director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, MSc. Maja Pak and an address by the Mayor of Vipava, Goran Kodelja.

Afterwards, the group was taken to lunch at Gostilna pri Lojzetu at Zemono mansion,  the first recipient of the Slovenia Green Cuisine label and a Michelin star restaurant. Here they were pampered with culinary creations of chef Tomaž Kavčič. As Vipava is a wine-growing region, the visit also included a stop at one of the top biodynamic winemakers, Guerila. A short presentation was followed by e-cycling among the vineyards, and each of the journalists also planted a vine in the vineyard.

On this occasion, MSc. Maja Pak, director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, said: "I am pleased that sustainable tourism will be among the main priorities during the presidency, as Slovenia is among the leading countries in the world in the field of sustainable tourism development. I believe that with our knowledge and experience, we can contribute to the European Tourism Agenda 2030-2050 and help build and transform European tourism for a new era so that it is even more sustainable, healthy, digital, inclusive and, last but not least: responsible. Towards nature and people, and of course towards the generations to come. "

Among the topics brought to the fore during the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the field of tourism is the sustainable commitment of Slovenia. The presidency is an excellent opportunity to strengthen Slovenia's reputation as a leading country in the field sustainable tourism. Also, the Green. Healthy. Smart. Inclusive. Responsible. slogan illustrates very well what Slovenia is striving for. This is a key message about the development of tourism in Slovenia during the presidency.
