30 years since the first edition of the Tour of Slovenia, the start of this year's race in Celje
The first Tour of Slovenia was organised in May 1993 to celebrate the independent Slovenia, just a year after the Slovenian Cycling Federation became a full member of the International Cycling Federation (UCI).
Over the years, the organisation of the Tour of Slovenia has continuously developed. Today, the race is considered a world-class sport-tourism event which brings the most famous names from the world of cycling to Slovenian roads.
The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) entered the partnership with the Tour of Slovenia six years ago. With the aim of positioning Slovenia and the race on the international cycling map, the funds for the broadcast on Eurosport were collected. Since then, Eurosport provided 10 hours of coverage of the race each year. This year alone, it ran 120 minutes of advertisements communicating a green, healthy and active Slovenia in a 2-month advertising campaign. In 2022, the race was watched by a record of 10.9 million TV spectators. This demonstrates the effective long-term involvement of the STB in the project, which is delivering above-average multiplier effects with year-on-year upgrades and increased content integration. In the five years to date, 46 million viewers have watched the race across Slovenia on Eurosport alone.
This year, the race will take place between 14 and 18 June. The start of the race will be in Celje.
