Koper is a new European Destination of Excellence

Koper is a Mediterranean city, bounded by sea and hills in south-west Slovenia. It displays its rich 1000-year history at every step. A walk through the old city centre is a walk through the past and a true cultural experience. In the last couple of years, Koper has developed some exciting new cultural tourist products, such as Experience Hrastovlje, the Koper Card, and the Carpaccio500 project, and has invested in the renovation of cultural institutions. Koper is also a member of the Association of Historical Cities of Slovenia. The mysterious Koper countryside is known as the land of Refošk wine and offers a unique range of gastronomic adventures, while its traditional events reflect the true pleasures of Istria.

The other EDEN finalists, Radol’ca, Ptuj, Kras and Slovenske Konjice, will also be included in the EDEN network, which gives them promotion in classic and social media, presentations at tourist fairs and specialised newsletters, as well as thematic photographs and other support. Cultural tourism, the current subject of the EDEN project, also coincides with the two-year theme of the STB for 2018 and 2019.
