The Jenko's Residence - a new dispersed accommodation in Kranj

The Municipality of Kranj has done a lot to revitalise the old town centre in recent years: from the opening of a music school, the development of new housing and the location of the Kovačnica business incubator in the former post office building, to the renovation of the Prešern's Street. Another important boost for the city is the new addition to Kranj's tourist offer - the Jenko's Residence. This experience puts poet and writer Simon Jenko in the spotlight and is the first step towards realising the idea of a dispersed hotel, which the Kranj Tourism Board wants to establish in the old town centre.

The renovation of the house in Tomšičeva Street, where Jenko worked and died in 1869, started last year, with an investment of around 50,000 euros for a 40-square-metre apartment suitable for four people. "We are sustainable in our offer, and we have ordered and bought a lot of equipment second-hand, from mirrors, plates, cutlery, chairs, armchairs and a TV set to heating elements. We will encourage guests to separate waste, drink tap water and save water, while we will advise them to walk or cycle when exploring Kranj," explains Klemen Malovrh, Director of Kranj Tourism Board. The apartment will also occasionally host cultural events and workshops.

The idea of a dispersed hotel - hotels of this kind are mostly opened in old town centres abroad to revitalise them - is a model of accommodation consisting of buildings in different locations in a smaller town, sharing a reception and other facilities. The reception of the Jenko's Residence is located at the Kranj Tourist Info Point.

The opening of the Slovenian National Anthem Park

Kranj, the 2023 European Destination of Excellence, has always been proud of its outstanding poets, France Prešeren and Simon Jenko, which is why on 1 June, the Slovenian National Anthem Park will open, dedicated to the two great names of Kranj.
