In less than a week after Adria Airways announced the initiation of bankruptcy proceedings and cancelled all scheduled flights, some of the airline connections have already been confirmed to be replaced.

Adria Airways flights are already being restored by new players

It is predicted that the current situation will, in particular, only have a short-term impact on Slovenia's air accessibility, as the efforts for improving the situation and re-establish canceled flights have already borne fruit.

Some of the canceled airline connections are already confirmed to be replaced by the airlines that already fly to/from Ljubljana Airport.

The frequency will be increased and connections enhanced for the routes:

  • Lufthansa will maintain the connection between Frankfurt and Munich. From October 27, 2019, Lufthansa will fly two daily flights between Frankfurt and Ljubljana. Meanwhile, the German airline plans to start flying between Munich and the Slovenian Capital from November 1, 2019, offering daily flights as well.
  • SWISS Airlines, starting October 16, 2019, will fly five times per week between Zurich and Ljubljana. As the airlines’ winter schedule kicks in, the Swiss carrier will switch to daily operations between the two cities.
  • Brussels Airlines will fly Brussels – Ljubljana 6 times a week (with the exception of Saturdays), starting on 4 November.

In addition, enhanced connections with Ljubljana have also been announced by:

  • by Air France, between Paris and Ljubljana;
  • by LOT Polish Airlines between Warsaw and Ljubljana;
  • by Air Serbia between Belgrade and Ljubljana;
  • and by Montenegro Airlines between Podgorica and Ljubljana.

The STB executes various promotional activities for improving the accessibility of Slovenia through flight connections and this will remain one of the main activities also after the bankruptcy of Adria Airways.
