Organic Garden at Otočec Castle

Fresh, home grown fruit and vegetables and herbs that go straight from the field to your plate are valuable “super foods” that elevate cuisine to a new level and give it its added value. This is why Terme Krka Hotels aim to include as much locally-grown produce as possible into their offer.

Not only that Terme Krka hotel chain buys produce from verified local producers, they have decided to go step further by creating their very own gardens where they grow vegetables, herbs, aromatic plants and berries. Their organic Castle Garden is located near Otočec Castle in pristine nature. The master chefs from the restaurants at Otočec Castle, Hotel Sport Otočec and Terme Šmarješke Toplice all use the produce from this very garden to create tasty dishes and local specialities. What is more: you can also visit the garden and have a chat with the gardener who reveal secrets of growing healthy food.

The Castle Garden is home to a variety of vegetables and aromatic plants, as well as fruit trees and berries. Flowers and herbs are planted among the vegetables and thus help deter pests or attract helpful insect that get rid of unwanted insects. This means that no chemicals are used, only occasionally some homeopathic methods to deter wireworms, cabbage-stem flea beetles and other beetles.

For visitiors, a space next to the garden shed has been created, where they can taste the produce from the garden. Guests of Sport Hotel can visit the garden together with a chef and pick herbs and vegetables for the chef to then prepare for their dinner. Visitors are also invited to help out in the garden. Working in a garden surrounded by nature is perfect for anyone who wants to escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.
