Autumn Hiking Festival in the Soča Valley

With the arrival of autumn, when nature dresses in the most beautiful colours, a Hiking Festival is  organised annually in the Soča valley. In September and October, one of the most beautiful alpine river valleys, the Soča, hosts hikes and thematic hiking weekends which unite fans of hiking and alpinism from Slovenia and  abroad. A rich programme, which takes place from 15th September to 1st October, is prepared by Tourism Soča Valley in cooperation with the Triglav National Park.

Autumn Hiking Festival in the Soča Valley

The organisers of the Hiking Festival in Soča valley are fans of alpinism and ambassadors of safe hiking in the mountains. They arrange a mountain guide for all organised hikes, some of which are suitable for families, as well as those for more demanding mountaineers. Each year, the programme of the Hiking Festival is full of fun and genuine local experiences – from the display of homemade crafts to delicious cuisine. The organisers also do not forget the social note of the event, and work to raise awareness of safe hiking, hiking equipment and safety throughout the programme.

Every event within the festival has a sports, historical or culinary theme. Some are already traditional or thematically arranged: one leads along the remains of the Isonzo Front, while others take place in the heart of the Triglav National Park and discover less familiar corners of the Soča valley. Over two weeks there are over 20 themed organised hiking events, the Bovec marathon, a weekend of Nordic walking in Camp Koren, and workshops and meetings with the great names of Slovenian alpinism. Don’t miss out on the traditional two-day trip to Slovenia’s highest mountain, Triglav, walking along the Alpe Adria trail, which is gaining in popularity each year, or taking part in Jestival, the festival of tastes and art.

A more detailed programme can be viewed on the online version of the Hiking Festival leaflet or in printed versions of it, which are available in all tourist centres in the Soča valley.
