Start your marathon season at the Slovenian coast

Slovenian Istria, with its mild Mediterranean climate, provides excellent conditions for running at the beginning of spring. The Istrian Marathon connects the coastal towns of Koper, Izola and Piran. One of the first marathons of the season will take place on 9th April. Don’t miss the opportunity to run in the next marathons in green, active and healthy Slovenia; the Three Hearths Marathon at Radenci is scheduled for 20th May.

Green Slovenia has numerous possibilities and ideas of how to spend an active weekend. The Istrski maraton (Istrian Marathon) has quickly become one of the most popular running events to start the running season in Slovenia. Held on the Istrian peninsula, the event offers a run along scenic routes, through olive groves, orchards, vineyards and the picturesque coastal towns of Koper, Izola and Piran. The route changes each year. This Sunday, the start and finish will be on the seafront in the port of Koper, while the recreational part of the Istrian Marathon will start in Ankaran. Running is a popular activity in Slovenia, and throughout the entire year there are organised running activities and events. The next big marathon is scheduled for 20th May in Radenci, in north-east Slovenia. The Three Hearth Marathon starts at the Terme Radenci spa and the route also takes you into neighbouring Austria. You can apply for four different lengths (42km, 21km, 10km and 5km) or for a 9km-long competition in Nordic walking. The biggest running marathon in Slovenia is held in the last weekend of October. The Ljubljana Marathon is a major celebration of running in Slovenia. In 2016, it brought together almost 30,000 runners from more than 30 countries. The route follows the streets of Ljubljana, with both start and finish in the city centre.
