Many people start the New Year with a new resolution or celebrate it in a special way. This year, more than 540 brave jumpers dived into the cold water and started the year fully refreshed.

Traditional New Year jump into the Adriatic sea

On 1st January 2017, the coastal town of Portorož hosted its traditional 13th New Year jump into the sea. The central beach welcomed 545 registered jumpers, who entered the year 2017 fully refreshed, jumping in the 11°C Adriatic Sea. The event has a special symbolic value – start the year green, actively and healthy. Some say that swimming in water at a temperature of around 10°C has beneficial effects on well-being, blood circulation and metabolism.

Each year, the event attracts more brave swimmers, who become Ambassadors of the Slovenian sea, as well as curious visitors. The sunny weather offered inspiring views to more than 5000 spectators.
