Slovenia for the National Geographic World Legacy Awards

National Geographic has announced the finalists of the World Legacy Awards, which honour companies, organizations, and destinations that are driving the positive transformation of the tourism industry, showcasing leaders and visionaries in sustainable tourism best practices, and sharing their stories with millions of today`s travellers. Slovenian Tourist Board is one of the finalists in the category of Destination Leadership, together with Kenya and the United States.

The 15 finalists of the National Geographic World Legacy Awards were unveiled on 1st December. The Awards are organized in a partnership between National Geographic and ITB Berlin, with which Slovenia is also a “Convention and Culture Partner” in 2017. The Slovenian Tourist Board entered in the category for Destination Leadership. At the announcement of finalists, Slovenia was described thus: “With nearly 60 percent of its land forested, the country of Slovenia has successfully laid the foundation to become one of the world’s most sustainable destinations. The Tourist Board unifies all stewardship initiatives through its Green Scheme, which sets guidelines and provides tools for monitoring sustainability progress.”

The winners will be announced live at the World Legacy Awards ceremony on 8th March 2017, held at the Palais am Funkturm during ITB Berlin. The Winners and Finalists will also be recognized by National Geographic Traveller magazine.
