Unforgettable experiences with new Ljubljana tours

Tourist services in Ljubljana have been enhanced with two new guided tours: The boat to the Botanical Gardens, marking the 200th anniversary of the Gardens, and Veseli Janez (Happy Johnny), the first sightseeing open-top bus in Slovenia.

Take the boat for a walk to the Botanical Garden

Visitors can now reach the Ljubljana Botanical Garden, which this year celebrates its venerable 200th birthday, by boat, and in this novel way they can discover the history of the garden and its botanical attractions while enjoying the pleasant atmosphere in the shade of the trees.

The Botanical Garden in Ljubljana, founded in 1810, ranks among the historically most important ones of the world. It is also the oldest Slovenian cultural, scientific and educational institution to have operated without interruption. Growing within it are more than 4,500 species, subspecies and types of plants from various regions of Europe and even other continents.

Veseli Janez (Happy Johnny), a double-decker open-top sightseeing bus, takes visitors on extensive tours spiced up with interesting stories of Ljubljana recounted by the bus driver. Tours include a ride past the Roman wall, through the diplomatic area, past the famous Žale cemetery designed by Plečnik, the new Stožice stadium, the Plečnik Church in Črna vas in the Ljubljansko Barje wetland, Ljubljana Castle, Trnovo, where close to the only bridge in the world on which trees are growing, stands the house of architect Jože Plečnik, and finally a pleasant stroll through Tivoli Park, where the tour ends with a walk to the Museum of Modern Art and the National Gallery, and then back into the city centre.
