First Eco Hotels Certified apartments in Slovenia

The Ortenia Apartments in Podčetrtek are the first eco-friendly apartments in Slovenia to be included in the international Eco Hotels Certified network. The network promotes greater environmental responsibility as regards tourist accommodation and entire destinations, which is most clearly reflected in a smaller carbon footprint. According to a simple traffic light system, they measure whether the candidate is in the red, orange or green range, with green being the only colour that enables hotels to receive the Eco Hotels Certified seal of approval. The six low-energy Ortenia apartments, located on the edge of the forest above the village of Podčetrtek in eastern Slovenia, have a carbon footprint of less than 10kg of CO2 per bed per night. Owing to the use of natural materials and the principle of innovative sustainable construction, Ortenia guarantees high quality and a comfortable stay.

The carefully thought out architectural design accentuates the symbiosis between the outdoor and indoor living space. The apartments overlooking a castle and a garden with grandma’s hydrangeas have everything, and nothing is superfluous. It is the simplicity and asceticism of the mostly wooden interior, with walls made of natural clay, that make you relax and feel comfortable. The common areas are partially underground: a spa with two saunas, a fitness centre, a wine cellar and the reception.

The surroundings offer additional interesting experiences and activities, from cycling to hiking, from golf to spa services. In the vicinity there is the Olimia Thermal Spa. Its Orhidelia Wellness was awarded the title of the best spa centre in Slovenia for four seasons in a row, and in 2009, it was ranked among the finalists at the World Architecture Festival.
