Hostel Celica in Ljubljana, the winner of the first Slovenian Sejalec (sower) award for innovation in Slovenian tourism in 2004, has regularly been placed high in tourist magazines and other media selections around the world. It is also very popular among guests and has won the Hoscar award for the first time this year.

The largest online reservation provider, Hostelworld.com, presented the Hoscar awards this year in London, for the ninth time, to the best hostels in various countries worldwide − based on ratings by one million customers who booked their travel accommodation online with Hostelworld.com. The Hoscar awards are considered to be the most prestigious hostel awards. They are also the most credible since the customers rate the hostels only upon leaving the accommodation facility.

The customers rate their stay using six equal criteria: character, security, location, staff, fun and cleanliness. Hostel Celica received the Hoscar (Hostelworld.com Customers Annual Ratings) award for the first time this year. The hostel was rated by its users, who, until now, had not rated the hostel as high as tourism industry professionals; year after year it has been placed high in tourist magazines and other media selections around the world. Most recently, the Los Angeles Times listed it among the world’s 22 most “unusual” hostels.

Winners were chosen this year by Hostelworld.com customers from 25,000 properties in six thousand places around the globe. A record one million Hostelworld.com customers who booked their accommodation online voted for the winners.

Hostel Celica has been awarded several times so far by international tourism industry professionals and placed high among youth travel accommodation providers from all over the world. Lonely Planet, the largest travel guide book publisher in the world, proclaimed it the hippest hostel in the world in 2006. A year later, Rough Guide, also a renowned travel guide publisher, put it on its list of The 25 Ultimate Places To Stay within the framework of the jubilee collection Rough Guide 25 Ultimate Experiences, thus putting Hostel Celica alongside the most illustrious names in the hotel industry, such as the Danieli Hotel in Venice, the Icehotel in Sweden and the Burdj al Arab in Dubai.
