The Hotel Wellness Park Laško was awarded the EU Ecolabel

The Hotel Wellness Park Laško**** Superior met the final criteria for obtaining the environmental protection label and was thus awarded the EU Flower logo which is recognised throughout the European Union as an official label of environmental responsibility. In addition to fulfilling the demanding criteria of the EU Ecolabel in regard to reducing negative environmental impact, they also pay respect to cultural heritage, tradition and the specialities of the local environment by including them in their offer and by developing a comfortable environment to live and work in.

The Hotel Wellness Park Laško**** Superior met the final criteria for obtaining the environmental protection label and was thus awarded the EU Flower logo. In addition to fulfilling the demanding criteria of the EU Ecolabel in regard to reducing negative environmental impact, they also pay respect to cultural heritage, tradition and the specialities of the local environment by including them in their offer and by developing a comfortable environment to live and work in.

The Thermana Company – composed of the Wellness Park Laško and Zdravilišče Laško which is one of 15 Slovene natural health resorts – chose a path of more environmentally friendly operations by paying respect the natural environment and appreciating the rich cultural heritage, therefore attracting guests who are becoming increasingly more environmentally aware.

They strive for lower air pollution, a more economic use of energy, water and other natural resources, a lower level of environmental pollution – these are the areas focused on by most of the criteria required to earn the EU Ecolabel. In the last few years, Thermana went one step further by developing other aspects of sustainable tourism which often go ignored.

Their wellness offer is based on local factors – developing unique honey and beer treatmens. Their culinary masters develop culinary delights that are seasonal and organic, food increasingly comes from the surrounding farms. Via the spa train and other different benefits, the guests are encouraged to use public transportation. The programmes also try to stimulate the guests to discover the nearby surroundings and its cultural and natural heritage – the identity of Thermana reflects the rich spa and brewing tradition of this little town on the Savinja River. They also developed a lively and attractive eco animation with the involvement of local people and their stories which give visitors a sense of authenticity. They developed green business meetings along with implementing many individual activities making use of the beautiful local environment while reducing the environmental footprint.

Thermana explained the reasons for deciding to obtain an environmental label: »The new views were in the beginning brought about primarily by the desire to find a competitive advantage over others. And later – as we got to know the complexity and positive effect of the idea of sustainable tourism in further detail, and as we became aware of our role and also the responsibility in preserving the environment – we no longer hesitated. Additional incentives came from the Slovenian Tourist Board which guided us to sustainable tourism as the one development concept that is the right way for Slovenian tourism and is also the only one which can be competitive in long term. Individual elements of environmentally responsible practices and integration of local identity and cultural heritage have been gradually included into our offer. But since we wanted that our engagement in this area to be officially certified and announced to others, the whole thing was given meaning with the acquisition of the environmental Flower logo.
