The stories of the two winemakers in love with their worlds

In the southwest of Slovenia, in the Brda hills, which look like the green, curvy scenery of a romantic movie, there is a wine cellar called Kabaj Morel. According to Wine and Spirits Magazine, this is one of the hundred best wineries in the world. Brda is the land of exhilarating moments and good winemakers know how to intertwine wine with art. Many wine cellars like Ščurek have become little galleries exhibiting the works of renowned artists. On the other side of the state, in Prlekija, near Velika Nedelja, there is the Kogl farm dedicated to winemaking. The KOGL cellar is famous for combining art with an almost half-a-century-old winemaking business.

The Kabaj farm is run by Katja Kabaj Morel and her partner Jean Michel Morel, a French oenologist who gained experience in world-renowned cellars and settled on the Kabaj estate 22 years ago. The stunning view and walking routes amidst vast vineyards will make you want to stay for good. Even though you can order the Kabaj wines in selected restaurants all over the world, we suggest that you visit the farm in Brda where you can, in a modern environment, enjoy the dishes prepared according to the recipes of local grandmothers and stay overnight. One more tip: try the wine in amphoras made in a traditional way.

The story of a renowned Slovenian winemaker Franci Cvetko proves that winemaking can go hand-in-hand with art. This winemaker who doesn’t crave attention at all and almost jealously hides his high-quality wine from the world to which he doesn’t belong. The Kogl cellar is located in Velika Nedelja on Kogl hill where vineyards had first been mentioned as early as 1542. This vineyard has a rich tradition and an interesting history in the heart of Prlekija. The speciality of this winegrower is a combination of wine-growing and art. The designers of his labels and the interior designers of his estate which is a home to various works of art are the most famous Slovenian artists, designers, poets and writers. Join them and taste one of the many wines of this intriguing winegrower who is concentrated on versatile wine production. His trademark is Mea Culpa (in Latin "through my fault"). Let the Kogl wine be the source of your amazing experience!
