Urška tourist farm receives the European eco label

The Urška tourist farm is the first and so far the only tourist farm in Slovenia to receive the official label of the European Union for environmentally friendly tourist accomodation, known as the eco-label flower. This year, the Urška tourist farm is also celebrating its 20th anniversary since the first guests in the village Križevec pri Zrečah were welcomed.

The European eco-label flower is awarded to tourist facilities that strive for lower air pollution, more efficient energy consumption and consumption of other natural resources, lower environmenal pollution and use of organically produced food. The Urška tourist farm is the first Slovenian farm from the 811 farms that are registered for the secondary activity of farm tourism to receive the EU eco-label flower for enviromentally friendly tourist accomodation. The Director-General of the Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia, Silvo Žlebir, handed over the label to Vilma Topolšek, the owner and driving force of the farm. The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, mag. Dejan Židan, was also present at the ceremony; he exposed the Urška tourist farm as an excellent example of good praxis among farms that are registered for the secondary activity of farm tourism.

Some interesting statistical data was also mentioned during the official ceremony of awarding the label; namely, since their beginnings, the farm has prepared 19 tonnes of beef, five kilometres of Carniolian sausage, more than 9000 loafs of bread, more than 13 tonnes of potatoes, 69,000 litres of wine, etc. for guests.
