In September, Lonely Planet published a survey in which its readers were asked about the countries and towns that they would like to include in the Top 10 list of the `Best in Travel 2012`. Slovenia was placed on this list; namely, in 8th place, while Iceland was a convincing winner.

Every year, Lonely Planet’s picks for the top destinations of the coming year are published in Best in Travel (Best in Travel 2012). As they say, it’s a long, involved process. But at the end, a string of sparkling authoritative lists emerges, representing what Lonely Planet authors, editors and staff believe to be the very best in travel for next year. There was one difference this year – they wanted to hear what readers thought would be 2012’s hottest destinations. After hundreds of nominations for cities and countries and over 3000 votes for the finalists, the results were in.

Iceland received the highest number of votes and became the winner – including Reykjavik in the Top 10 Cities category, followed by Italy, India, the Phillipines, Turkey, Columbia, Great Britain, Slovenia, USA and Mexico. This means that Slovenia was ranked among the most respectable company of countries that, according to the readers` opinions, represent the hottest destinations.
