Hostel Celica is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary and has been listed among the most popular accommodation facilities in the world. This renowned hostel in Ljubljana, which used to be a military prison and was later artistically renovated and turned into an accommodation facility with a unique concept and special artistic value, was selected by the British publishing company Octopus Publishing Group and included in a prestigious guide 501 Great Places to Stay.

It received an award for the most innovative hostel and was placed among the 25 most unique hotels in the world and received the best comments from hostel users. These and many other appraisals are the reason that Celica ranks among the top most popular hostels according to the world tourist guide "bibles" such as Lonely Planet and Rough Guides. Hostel Celica is now also one of the most extraordinary and innovative places from all the continents described in the publication 501 Great Places to Stay. The collection includes special and innovative facilities visited by prestigious guests, unassuming backpackers and perpetual adventure seekers.

The editors of the Octopus Publishing Group were impressed by its unique interior and its twelve unique and artistically renovated prison cells. The cells that were turned into an architectural work of art by renowned artists still have their original prison bars. Their unique concept is in line with the cultural events that take place in the hostel.

This year another innovative hostel opened its doors in Ljubljana. Hostel Tresor is located in a former bank building and has a great location in the centre of the city. It has 104 beds in 29 rooms that are named after world currencies. Its interior design includes equipment from previous banking periods together with vivid colours and modern designing solutions. Multiple bedrooms are, for example, turned into several mini safe deposit boxes.

According to Hostelling International Slovenia which is Slovenia`s only national representative in the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYFD), there are approximately 40 youth hostels in Slovenia and their number is constantly growing. There are more and more hostels with interesting stories connected with the local environment that are spread all around the country, from the smallest one in Ljubno ob Savinji to bigger ones in Ljubljana and Portorož.
