Environmentally oriented International Film Festival at Bled

This year, the summer tourist season in Bled, the jewel of the Slovenian Alps, will be opened in a special way. Between 17 and 21 June, it will be hosting the first international Bled Film Festival (BFF). The festival`s chairman is famous actor Rade Šerbedžija, who has spent a large part of his life in Slovenia. He is proud of the mission and vision of the festival named "Moving Images for a Better World" which emphasises the challenges concerning the environment and conserving water resources. In the program, there will be 8 films on the theme of water and the newest works from the world of independent film. A lot of well-known names will be involved, which have supported the initiative and are today part of the festival family. Among others are the Board Members Branko Djurić, Vanessa Redgrave, and Armand Assante.

The most famous Slovenian postcard portrays a picture of Bled, with its emerald lake surrounded by high peaks of the Alps. The program of the Bled Film Festival will be marked by a special atmosphere, with screenings in Bled Castle and on the promenade along the lake. The Festival will offer other interesting accompanying activities, since there are many tourist attractions in Bled and its surroundings which are among the most interesting in Slovenia. Have you ever ridden on a pletna boat, eaten a cream cake, seen the vintgar, or gone hiking in the nearby mountains?

"Moving Pictures for a Better World" will inspire viewers in the most beautiful possible environment. Where else would be the perfect place for the awareness-raising about the richness of water and the importance of water resources than around the magical Alpine lake with the island in the middle? On this island, there is a church with the Wishing Bell, after which the Bled Film festival`s grand prize was named. Independent feature films and documentaries will be competing for several Wishing Bells awarded by the international jury, represented by Bond girl Caterina Murino and executive producer of documentaries for HBO Europe Hanka Kastelicova.

According to the legend, the prizes will be awarded to those film-makers who will take the traditional pletna boat ride to the island, climb all the stairs to the Church of the Assumption of Mary, and while ringing the Wishing Bell hope most honestly for success at the Bled Film Festival.

Visit Bled during the festival and view the masterpieces, which are competing for best film, best actor, best actress, and best documentary dealing with water issues, as well as the audience choice award. The Festival, which hopes to grow ecologically and combine the splendour of the festivals with the ecology, will certainly earn its place on the global map of film festivals.
