Selfness in Cerkno, a fresh trend in tourism emphasizing relaxation, spiritual experience, detox, and self-healing, is skilfully combined with Slovenia`s most important natural treasure, the forest. Forest selfness emphasizes the healing properties of the natural environment, setting it apart from traditional selfness programmes. The relaxing colours of nature, its soothing subtle sounds, and healing air have a therapeutic effect. A number of natural treasures, the diversity of the landscape, and the fact that 70% of the surface is covered with forests are proof that the green path in the development of Cerkno’s tourism is the right one.

And how does forest selfness work? Forest selfness practitioners head out in groups of up to on a six- or nine-hour organised tour on an easy hiking trail, with professional healing therapy at three or four stops in nature. They learn about healing therapy, which includes a presentation on the energies of different types of trees, guided meditation, and relaxation exercises. Under the trees and in the beautiful surrounding of green pastures they show the users some exercises for personal growth and teach them how to handle stress successfully. This can be done with sound therapy, resting in hammocks and walking on pine needles.

The surrounding areas of Cerkno boast natural beauties, which outline the richness of the landscape. The magical waterfalls, emerald pools, and rapids of the Poreznica Stream are breathtaking. The village of Zakojca is dominated by a 1300-metre-high hill called Kojca, home to a broad range of plants and game. Also on the list is the Zaganjalka Spring, a hydrological natural heritage and interesting karst phenomenon with distinctive changes in its water flow.
