Music summer in Slovenia

The second half of the summer is reserved for numerous festivals. Music, dance, displays of cultural heritage and lively atmosphere invite to the streets and squares of Slovenian towns. Visit cultural and entertaining music events. Feel the vibrant Slovenia and venture onto a roundabout of outdoor adventures organised round the country.

Ljubljana Festival has been taking place throughout the summer. This is one of the oldest and the most important festivals in the broader region. Established Slovenian and foreign performers in the fields of music, opera, dance, musical, theatre and fine arts will be featured over a period of more than three months. The festival hosts many eminent and respected persons of elite art, including the Chinese conceptual composer and conductor Tan Dun, and Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the most accomplished Polish composers and conductors, and others. See the global smash-hit musical, Mamma Mia!, and enjoy reminiscing about the golden era of Slovenian popular songs at traditional Summer Night. You can find a more detailed programme here.

Maribor Festival is taking place in the capital of the Štajerska region. The festival is interesting because it includes individual top musicians, who, according to the programme selection of the artistic director, form different chamber and orchestral ensembles. The concerts will take place in Maribor concert halls and smaller venues between 8 and 18 September. Experience the excellent atmosphere of Ptuj Castle, Dornava Manor, Union Secessionist Hall and Slovene National Theatre Maribor. The Minorite Church in Maribor is a new venue of this year’s festival. You can find the concert programme here.

Another festival with many years of tradition is undoubtedly also Okarina Ethno Festival in Bled. International stars of ethno music will gather in the idyllic Alpine town between 17 July and 9 August. Get excited by folk music and the view on to the glistening Alps.

Kamnik, a town in the embrace of mountains, will host the Days of National Costumes and Clothing Heritage with musical accompaniment. A traditional parade of national costumes in the colours of the rich clothing heritage takes place on the streets of the old town. More than two thousand enthusiasts and experts in the strict rules of sewing folk costumes participate at the central event. Stop in Kamnik between 10 and 13 September. Welcome to Slovenia bursting with summer music.
