World Tourism Day in Slovenia

The General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) declared 27th September the World Tourism Day. The theme of this year`s World Tourism Day is titled "1 Billion Tourists, 1 Billion Opportunities".

According to the statistics provided by the World Tourism Organization, the number of international tourists exceeded the number of one billion in 2012. The increased numbers of tourists pose a challenge for various sectors: tourism, entrepreneurship, public services etc. However, billions of tourists also represent billions of opportunities. This is what this year`s World Tourism Day – 27th September is dedicated to. The World Tourism Organization is working towards having as many tourists as possible contributing to the sustainable development of their destinations. If each one of the billion tourists contributed in a small way such as buying locally sourced foodstuffs and reusing their towels, it would be a great change for the world.

Celebrate the World Tourism Day in Slovenia! Treat yourself to a vacation in green nature. Over half of Slovenia is covered by forests. Boost your heart rate in an active environment and sports-minded company. Cycling and hiking are two of the most popular outdoor activities in Slovenia. Over 10,000 km of cycling and hiking paths are available just minutes from urban centres.

You can also do something good for your health in one of the 14 Slovenian natural health resorts or by trying out the excellent local cuisine in one of the 24 culinary regions and 14 wine-growing districts. During your visit, don`t forget to take care about the environment, recycle your trash and travel the distances by using public buses or trains. Buy fresh produce from the salespeople at the farmer`s market or simply make a stop at their homestead and pick goodies from their garden by yourself.
