Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016

The Roman town of Emona 2000 years ago and a friendly European capital today, Ljubljana is a city with a charming historic centre, completely closed to motorised traffic. Ljubljana amazes every visitor with its hospitality, romantic corners, numerous events and rich cuisine with the tastes of Ljubljana. It is one of the rare capital cities with natural drinking water available on almost every step and numerous green areas where visitors love to spend time and Ljubljana residents like to meet. The efforts to improve the state of the environment and the quality of life brought the city its flattering title of the European Green Capital 2016. Along with colourful events throughout the year, many additional thematic events will be organised in 2016 to honour the city`s prestigious title.

Regardless of whether you visit Ljubljana for the first time or keep returning on a regular basis – there are never too many hints for unforgettable experiences. The best way to explore the capital is by bike or on foot, in all seasons of the year. Visit numerous museums and galleries, which are open throughout the year and indulge in Central European pulse.

Tolmin, Alpine Town 2016

From the Green Capital, in the heart of the country, embark on a trip to the green nature. After a two-hour and a half ride, a very special Alpine world opens in the West of Slovenia. Tolmin is located in the emerald Soča River valley, close to the Italian border, and partly also in the protected area of Triglav National Park, which is celebrating 25 years. Bearing the flattering title of the Alpine Town 2016, Tolmin has become part of an international association that strives for a nature-friendly and socially responsible development of the Alpine region. In the hearth of the land that winds along the emerald alpine river Soča, one of the most beautiful alpine rivers in the world, Tolmin has prepared a number of events that will spice up your visit. During the celebration of 100 years of peace after the First World Was and Isonzo Front, we recommend a visit to the memorial church of the Holy Spirit at Javorca, which is in the heart of pristine nature and impresses with its Art Nouveau interior.

Carousel of international congress events
