The Alpe-Adria Trail, the hiking path connecting Slovenia, the Austrian region of Carinthia and the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, is attracting more and more hikers to green, active and healthy Slovenia. The trail has been recognised by local tourist organisations as a valuable asset with a positive impact on the economy of local communities. At a press conference held at the biggest Slovenian travel and trade show of active holidays, Austria, Italy and Slovenia signed a three-year contract for joint marketing activities of the Alpe-Adria Trail.

The Alpe-Adria Trail is an international hiking path that connects three countries and cultures. Of the 700 kilometres of the trail, 145km runs through the western part of Slovenia, connecting Kranjska Gora, Bovec, Tolmin, Brda and Lipica. Each year the trail attracts more and more hikers and media attention. The National Geographic Traveller rated the Alpe-Adria Trail as one of the top ten hiking trails in the world. It has generated more than 60,000 overnight stays, of which approximately 9,000 were in Slovenia in 2015. To develop this further, the managers of the three tourist boards, Maja Pak of the Slovenian Tourist Board, Christian Kresse of Kaernten Werbung and Marco Tullio Petrangelo of Turismo Friuli Venezia Giulia signed a new three-year Agreement on Cooperation during 2016-2018.

Maja Pak from the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB): “The Alpe-Adria Trail project is one of the most successful tourist products of recent years. The STB has been intensively involved in the project since the very beginning because Slovenia’s exceptional diversity is one of the foundations of the project, which is in perfect harmony with the strategy of tourism in Slovenia and its slogan: green, active, healthy SLOVEnia.”
