In spring and summer, Slovenia offers green and healthy experiences that involve all senses. The varied geographical area, which connects the mighty Alps, the warm Adriatic Sea, the mysterious Karst underground and green Pannonian plains over short distances, allows a fast and comfortable transition between diverse landscapes. The capital, Ljubljana, European Green Capital 2016, opens its door to numerous experiences and serves as an excellent starting point for discovering green, healthy and active Slovenia.

Discover green areas in Ljubljana on foot or by bicycle. In warmer months, the city centre, which is closed to motor traffic, becomes a spacious living room, perfect for relaxing on the embankments of the Ljubljanica River and in city parks. Slovenia’s capital is also a cultural centre of the country. The lively city centre is alive day and night.

Only half an hour away to the west is Postojna Cave, the most popular Slovenian tourist attraction, where a mysterious underground world opens up, full of tunnels and magnificent galleries. The world has been waiting for the famous proteus eggs to hatch since the news broke at the end of January 2016 that this once in a decade event had taken place.

In the west of the country, you can find refreshment in the valley of the emerald Soča River, one of the most beautiful Alpine rivers, or on wine roads in Brda, the land of invigorating moments. Forest Selfness in Cerkno is a fresh trend in tourism, and is perfect after a long winter. The westernmost part of Slovenia smells of the sea. Everyone who visits Piran, picturesque coastal town with Venetian architecture, wishes to experience again the romantic idyll of this part of Slovenia’s coast.

The Alpine world in the north attracts enthusiasts of pristine nature. The powerful peaks of the Julian Alps, the Karavanke and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps wind like a string of pearls. It is difficult to find a Slovenian who does not keep a pair of hiking shoes in their closet. Many hiking events of the Let’s Hike Slovenia initiative are organised, attracting a growing number of foreign visitors.

The east and south of Slovenia have inviting green hills, orchards and romantic vineyards. In Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia, where the oldest vine in the world and many cycling paths around vineyards can be found. Cycling along the Mura River in the hospitable Pomurje region is also a romantic experience. Treat yourself to Prekmurje gibanica, the popular sweet dessert. Wherever you are in green, healthy and active SLOVEnia, you will always be accompanied by love.
