Within the framework of the working visit to Beijing, the Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Zdravko Počivalšek, and the Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB), Maja Pak, met with the Chairman of the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), Li Jinzao. The topic of discussion was the strengthening of tourist flows and the possibility of direct air links between the two countries.
On a 2-day working visit, the Minister and the Director of STB attended the First World Conference on Tourism for Development, organized by the China National Tourism Organisation and the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). The conference addressed the current topic of tourism’s contribution to sustainable development, poverty reduction and the promotion of peace. The conference was attended by more than 800 representatives from more than 100 countries, including representatives of major tourism institutions across the world.
"The importance of sustainable development in the tourism sector is reflected in the decision of the UNWTO, which proclaimed the year 2017 to be the International Year of Sustainable Tourism,“ commented Maja Pak, the Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board.
During the conference, Minister Počivalšek met with Taleb Rifai, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation, who will be the introductory speaker at the panel on tourism at the Bled Strategic Forum, taking place in Bled in September.
