Slovenia among the champions with Olympic medals per capita

We are proud to announce that Slovenia is among the champions at the Rio 2016 Olympics. A country with only 2 million inhabitants, we won 4 Olympic medals, which places us in the top ten of countries with the highest number of medals per capita. The famous Slovenian fighting spirit brought us gold and bronze in judo, while the healthy waters of Slovenia inspired the other two silver medals.

Green, active and healthy Slovenia was represented at the Rio Olympic Games by 60 devoted athletes who won 4 Olympic medals. A strong spirit, devotion, optimism, love of sports and big support from the homeland makes Slovenia a traditionally successful country at large international competitions.

World Champion Tina Trstenjak won our first medal with gold in the women`s 63kg judo. The same fighting spirit brought bronze to another Slovenian judoka, Anamari Velenšek. With inspiration from the healthy waters kayaker Peter Kauzer won the silver Olympic medal in the single slalom, and the last silver medal went to our best sailor, Vasilij Žbogar, who was participating in his fourth Olympic Games and has now a collection of three Olympic medals. The Slovenian handball team also achieved the greatest success in the history of Slovenian team sports competition at the Olympic Games with sixth place in the semi-final.
