Diversity & Green Gastronomy Webinars

With people unable to visit Slovenia during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Slovenian Tourism Board brought their gastronomic story directly to the media and travellers via a four-part series of Diversity and Green Gastronomy-themed webinars.

2020 was set to be a huge year for Slovenian gastronomy before the pandemic put a halt on both domestic and international travel. Slovenia has been named European Region of Gastronomy 2021 and is set to unveil its first ever Michelin guide soon.

With this in mind, the Slovenian Tourism Board devised a four-part ‘Green Gastronomy’ webinar series to ensure that foodie travellers and the media were aware of the country’s diverse and delicious culinary offering for when lockdown is lifted.

The Zoom webinars began in May; the first session focused on an insight into Slovenian gastronomy from Ana Ros and her Hisa Franko team, while the second saw chefs Ksenija Mahorcic, Jakob Jerala and Jure Tomic discuss how they planned to reopen as Slovenia became the first country in Europe to call an official end to the pandemic.

The webinars have been attended by editors and journalists from publications including National Geographic Traveller, Bloomberg, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent and Culture Trip, as well as various high profile influencers.

The sessions have also been streamed live on Slovenia Tourism’s Facebook page. The first two webinars have been extremely popular with Facebook viewers, having been watched over 36,000 times while reaching over 100,000 people.

The third ‘Green Gastronomy’ webinar took place today and offered an insight into the local Pomurje-based producers involved in the Gourmet Over Mura project.

The final webinar, scheduled for mid June, will see Ljubljana and Maribor go head-to-head in their bid to be recognised as Slovenia’s culinary capital.
