Slovenia to Host First World Winter Masters Games

Slovenia, with the municipality of Bled as the official host and other municipalities in the Gorenjska region, will from 25–31 January 2010 host the World Winter Masters Games, which are expected to involve from 6000 to 8000 active participants.

Slovenia, with the municipality of Bled as the official host and other municipalities in the Gorenjska region, will from 25–31 January 2010 host the World Winter Masters Games, which are expected to involve from 6000 to 8000 active participants. The debut presentation of the games was on Thursday 27 March 2008 at the Golf Hotel in Bled, with representatives of the International Masters Games Association, Bled mayor Janez Fajfar, vice-chairman of the Slovenian Olympic Committee Dr Jakob Bednarik, representative of the Slovenian Tourist Board and representatives of the organiser SI SPORT d.o.o. The World Winter Masters Games are likely to become the world’s largest winter sporting event in terms of the number of participants. The games will involve six events: alpine skiing, biathlon, ice hockey, ski jumps, cross-country skiing and, for demonstration, indoor football.
