World Winter Masters Games Good For Promotion of Slovenia

Bled will be playing host to the first World Winter Masters Games between 25–31 January 2010. The games present an opportunity for everyone – regardless of age, physical ability or level of fitness – to feel the Olympic spirit and excitement of the largest winter sports event. What is more, they open up additional opportunities for the promotion of Slovenia and its tourism.

The organisers expect from 4,000 to 6,000 participants, who will generate a total of 20,000–30,000 overnight stays, mostly in Bled and the surrounding municipalities of the Gorenjska region. The World Winter Masters Games are an excellent opportunity for Slovenia to be seen in the eyes of international visitors as a destination with a well-developed sports and tourism infrastructure. The games will take place at well-established winter sports venues: Alpine skiing in Kranjska Gora, cross-country skiing and biathlon on the Pokljuka plateau, ski jumping in Kranj, Tržič and Planica, ice hockey in Bled, Jesenice and Kranj, and indoor football in as many as eight places in the Gorenjska region: Bled, Kranjska Gora, Radovljica, Kranj, Naklo, Cerklje, Šenčur and Bohinj.
