A unique hand-made straw Christmas crib is displayed in front of Ljubljana's Zois Palace. What is special about this crib, created by the local artist Anton Kravanja, is that all the figures are life-size.
The first nativity scene in Slovenia was created by Francis of Assisi in 1644, and the custom spread elsewhere; it was mainly the Jesuits who made such installations. They decided to install such figurines mainly because they believed that it would make it easier for people to understand holy scriptures, imagine them and make them remember the birth of Jesus Christ more easily.
Nativity scenes were initially placed only in churches, but later, believers brought this custom into their homes as well. Thus, every year during Christmas, which is a time of peace, Christians remember the birth of Jesus.
